Kotoka International Airport

The new Terminal Building at Kotoko International AirportA 5 MW capacity power station built for the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority was commissioned in September 2002 at the Kotoka International Airport in Accra. The substation, which was designed by a team of Energy Foundation and GHAESCO experts, supplies power to the refurbished international terminal and the new domestic terminal at the airport. This was the first of two substations that have been designed and constructed at the Accra airport with technical support from the Energy Foundation. The second power station was completed in 2003 and improves power supply to the technical department, control tower, and the runway lighting system.

The substations are equipped with state of the art power installations with energy consumption monitoring facilities designed to assist managers of the airport in managing energy consumption in the facility. The system enables the tracking and measurement of energy consumption at each section of the airport building.

On the recommendations of the Foundation, the terminal buildings are fitted with state of the art energy saving lighting systems. The Energy Foundation is indeed proud to be part of this landmark gateway project.
